| | I was one of the few that predicted Safina to win over Jankovic, and am a big Safina fan generally. Her first serve is really developing into a weapon, and her emotions are coming into check. She has all of the skills to be a major force on tour. I agree that she figures to win this match and claim the title, but the odds are very steep, too steep in my opinion. Pennetta, assuming her blisters dont give her trouble should put up a major fight here. Pannetta is in her best form, and has shown she can hang with power players on hard courts, challenging Serena and beating the likes of Cibulkova. Safina could experience a bit of a hangover from yesterday's big win, and I see this going 3, so I'll be taking the over on games at the very least and am mulling some other wagers which reflect my expectation of a close, 3 set match. For me, Pannetta is the only play worth considering if your wagering a winner as the odds are clearly bloated based on the public's affection for Safina off of a big win. |

| | Pennetta playing very well at the moment, looks in good form. Think this will be tighter than the odds suggest. Going to lay Safina 2-0 as just like the end of last year I feel Pennetta will clinch at least a set out of this. |

| | I never thought I would say this but Safina has matured in the last few months like I never thought I would see. She does not get that down on herself that badly anymore and contains and redirects her anger in ways that James Blake and Safina's brother Marat should try to emulate. Now she plays her way out of funks and her four double faults in a row against Azarenka and bagel loss in the second set against Kudryavtseva was a testament to her new improved self. I am mightily impressed with her attitude and her game is getting better every week. The talent was always there but now together with the attitude she is going to be a force to be reckoned with for a long time. Jankovic was far from her best yesterday but Safina still played her positive attacking game and paid little attention to Jankovic complaining and "this title should be mine attitude." Safina will be more than eager to take on a weak Pennetta that is solid all around and moves rather well but really should not bother Safina at all. Pennetta's serve is decent for the WTA but is still very vulnerable. Safina has troubled far better serves than this and will take great advantage. I see break opps in many of Pennetta's service games and very few for Pennetta. Unless Pennetta is flawless and somehow has recovered 100% physically from a grueling week so far, I do not see her taking even a set. 2-0 to Safina and 6-4 6-4 would be a scoreline to expect. Nerves is the only thing for Safina but saving match points against Sharapova and Dementieva (although losing a close one to Peer at Wimbledon) should make her more calm when the moment finally arrives...
