A contrast of styles between the serve volley game from home player Melzer against the baseline game from Del Potro .
Del Potro is the rigtheous favorite in this one and is currently riding on a winning streak of 9 matches on his much prefered clay . His game from the back of the court is just awesome to behold and he beat renowned clay-courter in the past two weeks such as Gasquet , Bolelli , Kohlschreiber and , yesterday , the high-on-confidence Hanescu .
He counts on his massive serve to get a quick upper hand on his own service games and to dominate the rallies with his powerful forehand and , single handed , backhand . His game reminds me a bit of a young Kuerten and while he is not at that level yet (obviously) he does have the potential to crack the top ten and go far in the majors at some stage in the future . Remember he is only 19 !
Melzer has a very useful serve himself and uses that to rush to the net .
He has some very good and deft volleys in his arsenal and loves to use the drop volley to lure his opponents to the net where he counts on his superior positioning and skills to get the upper hand . This tactic served him very well against Starace who let himself get surprised by it time and again and never got a good read on the Melzer volleys . Nevertheless Starace at one point did manage to break the Melzer service games ( with Jurgen serving for the match in the 2nd set ) and even led by a break at the beginning of the third set . Surprisingly , he quickly allowed Melzer back into the match with some loose shots and lost his cool ever since .
It did show that Melzer`s game plan can be effective to some point on this surface and against inferior opposition .
Del Potro is in a different class though and Melzer will need to play the match of his life to serve and volley himself out of the avalanche of cracking shots he will have to endure from the Argentine .
Head-to-head is in Del Potro`s advantage as well ( 2-0 ) , both played on hard courts in 2007 , and with that in mind you just cannot give the Austrian much of a chance on the Argentine`s favorite surface .

Got my worries on this one which is stopping me going large but I do think Del Potro will win. Del Potro has been on form on the clay recently and won in Stuttgart. He knocked out the in-form Hanescu in the last round with a very solid performance. Main worry about this is that I am due a loss.

Who wants it more ? Obviously Jurgen. His charges to the net will make Del Potro play his returns a little too early and a lot of them will find the net for lack of topspin. The crowd will also play a big part in upsetting Del Potro.

It doesnt realy matter if Melzer got the past 2 matches in 3 sets, in fact he can only be even more motivated by that...Sort of a logics rarely works in tennis and however, they are not even playing 3-setters here, so the fitness, motivation, experience and home crowd support will not be missing for Jurgen.....I find it bizzare for anyone to go for Del Potro @1,35 or anything close to that
