Ryan Harrison received the first of four wildcards for next week's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport.
"I am eagerly anticipating being part of a tournament in Newport this summer. I really enjoy competing on grass courts, and that player field for this tournament indicates it will be a fantastic event", said Harrison. "It is an honour to have the opportunity to play where so many legends of the game have competed", the American youngster added.

April 7, 2010, 11:28PM U.S. Open Clay Court notes: Harrison aims for the top In a hurry, Ryan Harrison bowed out the tournament in doubles Wednesday after losing in the first round of singles qualifying, but his game — his physique, too — is looking good. Still only 17, Harrison could easily pass for 21 or 22. He has added an inch and 20 pounds of mostly muscle since he beat Pablo Cuevas in a main-draw first-round match here two years ago. Harrison grew so fast and was playing so much tennis he suffered a stress fracture in his lower back that cost him nearly eight months of down time. The experience taught him a lesson, though. “I had to get my core (muscles) stronger,†Harrison said, and he has. He has also matured significantly in terms of his mental approach, saying, “I'm almost 18, but I'm playing against guys who are 25, so I've got to prepare like a 25-year-old. I've got to push the issue on that and really understand that I've got to be professional to compete against those guys with all their experience.†He concedes he's not that patient despite his young age. “I want everything yesterday,†Harrison said, “so I'm pushing myself to get to the top as soon as possible. I don't want to get complacent in any way by thinking I have time.†Harrison's near-term goal is to get himself into the top 100 and comfortably into the U.S. Open draw this fall. He's currently 248th.
