Somdev Devvarman

CHENNAI: Somdev Devvarman will fly out to the United States later this week to consult with doctors in Virginia on his painful right shoulder. The 26-year-old, who pulled out of the on-going Chennai Open on Monday, will do additional MRIs on the AC joint before deciding his future course of action.

The shoulder started troubling Somdev in late July at the start of the American swing of tournaments in Washington. Somdev, clearly unhappy that he had to pull out of what he calls his home event, said, "As with all new injuries you hope that it would go away with a little rest and rehabilitation. I took a cortisone shot (in August), missed a week and then I struggled through the rest of the season. In the Davis Cup against Japan I was at odds. It was a frustrating time, the injury coming after five or six of the best months I had in the game."

Sports Management company 'Lagardere' have signed Somdev Devvarman of India.

Andy Roddick and Justine Henin are clients of the popular company, along with a host of other top 100 players on both circuits.

Indian Davis Cup players Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna have received wild cards for the singles main draw of ATP Aircel Chennai Open tennis tournament to be held from January 4-10.

Somdev, ranked 126, was a finalist last year.
He along with Sanam Singh has received the wild card for the doubles draw as well.

Former World No.1 Carlos Moya from Spain, who won here in 2004 and 2005, has received a wild card for both singles and the doubles main draw.
He will be partnering Indian teen sensation Yuki Bhambri, ranked 338, for the doubles.

Confirming his participation, Moya said: "My previous experience with the tournament is that I will be competing against a strong field. Spectators at the venue have been very supportive of me over the years, motivating me to perform to the best of my capabilities."

Indian youngster Somdev Devvarman opted out of the Champaign challenger event in the United States due to a shoulder injury.
