| | Verdasco will have too many weapons for the 1st round triumphant Eleskovic & should do it in 2 sets. |

| | Also agree Philsta, I've seen Rehnquist a lot and if it is he who faces Verdasco it'll be a squash match. |

| | Eleskovic proved it's a myth that Volandri and 98% of claycourters in general have mystical powers on the surface, by showing Volandri to be as average as he is yesterday. Verdasco is much more threatening withwinners from both sides in any position on the court. A stronger serve than Volandri by a factor of 10 aswell which will take a bigger effort for Eleskovic to break. I've not seen Eleskovic either yet, but a scrappy see-saw match with Volandri is a 2-0 beating by Verdasco under normal circumstances in ATP currency. That's what I hope for and certainly expect Verdasco to progress. |

| | Verdasco is in some amazing form of late and to me he is in one of most inform players on tour, he was unlucky losing out to Karlovic in Nottingham and unlucky losing out to Ancic in Wimbledon in a grueling encounter. Verdasco will tear his opponent to pieces and will be very fresh for his quarter final encounter with another easy opponent in one of the two swedish players, Rehnquist and Ryderstedt. |

| | Verdasco is one of the form players at the moment an is at a career high ranking of number 13..his last 23 matches he won an impressive 17 of them..Verdasco is very comfortable on all surfaces as shown reaching the Quater/Final at Hamburg,4th round at Roland Garros, then going onto grass Reaching the final at nottingham (Lost to Karlovic on a hard court lol!!) then a good run at SW19 loseing a marathon of a match to Ancic..must addmit never seen this kid play (Eleskovic) but im sure Verdasco can beat him the form he`s in |

| | Placed Volandri in a parlay along with:
Rezai-Bohli-Bolelli-Soderling-Schwank-Volandri-T.Johansson
The books are all over this match, which is a little suspect, so I'm crossing fingers as Volandri qualifies for a special situation favorite for me as well. |

| | pippo as i said before. I have been following eleskovic and he played here with a wildcard 4 years ago and i think he lost to Nieminen. Not much progress made for the young Ervin really, and Pippo is just out of shape but this tournament he should make a better start once and for all |

| | Ervin Elaskovic is a 21 year old youngster ranked 550 in the world who has been lucky enough to receive a wildcard into his home event. He boasts an unflattering 2-7 record this year at challenger level and has failed to win a set on the clay. One thing to note though is that after being smashed by a hot Nieminen here in 2004 at the tender age of 17, Eleskovic came back two years later and forced none other than JC Ferrero to 3 sets where he actually achieved more breaks of serve than his opponent. Volandri is a mere shadow of the player he was - 8 consecutive losses including 3 retirements as the Italian continues to struggle with knee injuries. His usually impressive claycourt record (114-67 before 2008) has been hit with an 8-9 return this year, and with his serve weaker than even ever before the dirtballer is vulnerable to anyone on the circuit right now. His fitness clouds were proven at Wimbledon where he retired two sets down against Reynolds and appeared in pretty bad shape, and despite the fact he would win this match with ease at his best due to great consistency and speed around the court, it would be crazy to back him at the shorts here. Eleskovic has if nothing else the home crowd to cheer him on, and at cricket score odds may be worth the smallest of wagers in an otherwise non-appealing battle. |

| | You always worry when a young unknown local plays in a small tournament because you never know what they are going to produce, but Juan Monaco has had a stellar yeae that has seen him break in2 the top 20 for the first time. Traditionally a claycourter, the Argentine has adapted his game very well due to his fantastic groundstrokes. He is solid off both wings, but prefers to run around the forehand side ala Carlos Moya and really do some damage that way. His 20 year old Swedish opponent has only won 6 of 15 challenger circuit matches in the past 12 months which is hardly encouraging. Lack of matchplay is only a slight concern for Monaco who has not been sighted since the US, but he'll still get through this one comfortably you would think. |
