Julien Benneteau Breaks Elbow In Nasty Fall

It happened in the exact same spot that Juan Monaco went down (during his match with Haase in Monte Carlo).

Julien Benneteau was pushing Andy Murray, locking heads with the Scot at 5-5 in the first set. He slid into the corner to retrieve a ball when he hit a bad patch in the court and twisted his ankle horribly. As he lost his balance and fell (screaming in pain) he put his right hand out to break the fall. Instead he damaged his wrist and you can almost see his elbow breaking – the mechanics of which will likely leave him with ligament damage.

Andy Murray ran off to get ice while Benneteau cried and shook on the ground – clearly in agony.

“I have fractured my right elbow and sprained my ankle. The worst thing is the fracture, which means at least three weeks of immobility. I will then have to get the feeling back in my elbow.”

Benneteau’s statement that he will have to be immobilized for three weeks is very optimistic. He wont play Roland Garros and I cant see him being fit for Wimbledon. It is more likely that we wont see Julien for 6 months. This could easily be the end of his season.

Elbows are notoriously difficult. Just ask Justine Henin and Nikolay Davydenko.

Julien Benneteau has pulled out of Brisbane - presumably he's still having trouble with the wrist which forced him to withdraw from the French DC team.

Looks like Clement will partner Llodra.

Julien Benneteau has retired down 6-4, 6-6 against Tommy Robredo in the second round of the U.S. Open, injuring an already taped wrist while hitting a backhand. Unable to serve normally, Benneteau tried an underhand delivery before retiring during the tiebreak.

Julien Benneteau, not long after his split with Thierry Champion, announced that his new coach is another Frenchman in Loic Courteau who is part of the well-known Lagardere coaching group.

Courteau's only real previous coaching effort of note was guiding former world number one Amelie Mauresmo on the women's tour as well as working for one year with Mathieu this season, but Benneteau is said to be very happy with the appointment.

"It is one of the few coaches with the French experience and the level currently available. I had yesterday a half hour discussion on the phone with Loic, to talk about the outline of our work and now I am able to go on vacation with serenity", said the 47th ranked Frenchman.

Just days after what Benneteau described as his best career moment following the win over Federer in Bercy, the journeyman Frenchie announced the end of his one-year affiliation with coach Thierry Champion.

"I knew it was our last tournament with Thierry. I had the back of my head, my heart. I wanted to win for him. Us!"

I always think qualifiers are really dangerous, having experienced the atmosphere and general playing conditions before getting to the main draw couple this with the fact that Benneteau is a quality player, ok this may not be his favoutite surface but due to the fact he has come through qualifying for this tournament gives me the confidence that he could upset moya's preparations for the open, I would not however recommend that this is a match you put your money on.
