| | Mauresmo as has been pointed out isn't in the best of form but it would be quite a shock to see her beaten here. I think there'll be enough of the old Mauresmo to ensure a win her. |

| | The bulky German Stephanie Gehrlein finally makes the step up from the ITF tour in which she has dominated to the big time. She's no spring chicken at 26 years of age, but the past 12 months have been very fruitful for Gehrlein who has won 3 titles (2 clay, 1 hard) and has beaten other top players at that level including Voegele, Georges,Rodionova, Muller, Beygelzimer and narrow losses to Shvedova, Yakimova and Niculescu. She qualified here with 3 tough-fought wins all that went the distance, over Wienerova, Petkovic and Larsson all whom would have started favourite. Her opponent is former number one Mauresmo who is definitely a light of other days but the Frenchwoman isn't completely done with as she showed in Moscow with a win over Cornet and a 3-set loss to world number three Safina. She was belted by Azarenka in Zurich, but this is a considerable class drop and in comparison to that match Amelie should be able to dictate terms and not be overpowered. I see no value in her however, especially considering she doesn't deal at all well with pressure and her serve and forehand are two of the most shakiest weapons going around these days when not fully on-song. Gehrlein will most likely enjoy her brief moment in the sun and go ahead with a "nothing-to-lose attitude", and whilst I don't think she can win, I think there is enough value in the 2-1 set bet to give it a small try. |
