| | I'll take Stosur again considering she now has had experience of playing the youngster and will now what to expect. Looks a good prospect though. |

| | Kulikova was impressive throughout qualification and also in her first round win here. Stosur has been excellent the past few months and will have too much craft and guile for the Russian. |

| | 19yo Regina Kulikova is rising up the rankings quickly now at 201, and qualified for this event with a solid victory over the experienced and capable hardcourter Czink before fending off the former topline talent Elena Vesnina in R1. The young Russian tested Stosur immensely at Birmingham on the Aussie's beloved grass surface, winning 73% behind her first ball and actually earning more breaks of serve (5 to 4). She is a strongly built youngster who hits the ball with great force but as many of those types can be prone to the high unforced error counts not to mention lots of raw inexperience. Stosur, however, has really improved since that match almost two months ago, and after going close against eventual winner Wozniak at the Stanford QFs showed no fatigue as she blitzed Israelian Shahar Peer losing just two games and winning an incredible amount of points on her own booming serve. She is really improving her baseline game to accomodate her incredible skills on the serve and volley, and the forehand is now a confident shot for Stosur. She should have too much weaponry for Kulikova who has had little exposure to hardcourts at the top level, and after breaking into the top 100 this week (87) the Australian can smell more blood here at the prospect of lifting another 15 to 30 or so rankings with a great performance this week. |
