| | Stosur was given a wildcard into this event and rightly so - she has proven her worth with a semi-final appearance in Eastbourne where she took out local hope O'Brien, former world number one Mauresmo and the high-flying Wozniacki before Petrova ended her fairytale. The Aussie employs a perfect game for grass - a booming serve, big groundstrokes and a quite exquisite game at net attributed to her wonderful success on the doubles circuit is certainly a force to be reckoned with. She has yet to do anything at Wimbledon, but you feel the injury lay-off has given her some time to really think about where her game is going and already I sense a rise in maturity and professionalism. She drew a favourable opponent in Olaru first-up, a young talented Romanian but one who has played very little on the grass and herself stated that she prefers the higher-bouncing and slower clay courts of Europe where she grew up. The youngster has lost 6 of her past 7 matches in a disappointing 2008 by standards she set last year, and two lead-up events have yielded one-sided losses to Poutchek and Kleybanova. Olaru's serve consistently lets her down and for her to get up in the 60% for first balls won is a bit of an achievement, unfortunately for her she's unlikely to get much of a look-in on the Stosur serve and she has struggled with big-servers in recent times with losses to Ivanovic, Vaidisova, Kleybanova, Zvonareva, Venus, Kanepi and Szavay. Stosur is an excellent front-runner having won 42 of her past 44 matches after winning set one, and also boasts an impressive 10-1 record in tiebreaks since the beginning of 07. All points to a Stosur victory and she is very keen to get out on court, let's hope she delivers her utmost which could see her really push the out-of-form Vaidisova and set-up a potential meeting with Chakvetadze in te 4th. |

| | Olaru won a narrow 3-setter on clay ywo years ago as a raw 16yo and will be confident of repeating the dose here today. Though she has struggled to live up to last year's results (beat Harkleroad, Benesova, Vakulenko, Wozniacki, Stosur), she loves the clay and should be able to atone for recent disappointments opposing Szavay, Kanepi and Peng. Cohen-Aloro is not up to the standard of either of those three players, but did make the R32 here last year and recently won a challenger in Saint-Malo taking out Kostanic Tosic. Her subsequent loss to the lowly Astrid Besser in Cagnes-Sur-Mer couldn't be put down to fatigue because it was played some week later, but the Frenchwoman did beat Pin (though that form is looking less impressive by the daY) and took a set off Pennetta (again a player in questionable form at present). She is a busy player who is very compotent from the baseline and is comfortable moving into the forecourt, but has no real weapons to speak of that could hurt the talented Romanian. I must admit I'd usually back Olaru who I listed as one to watch about two years ago, but her mental state is my only concern especially against a local. She has points to defend from last year and will be keen to do so as she is still climbing the rankings (currently at 90, but has slipped frmo as high as 55 late last year). Olaru in a close one but be wary of Cohen-Aloro if she starts well. |

| | Olaru is very raw in tight situations and this match won't be an exception if it gets down to the wire. Avoid this one unless you are punting for Yung, a player more acquainted with the humid climate of Miami! |
