Rigorous Russian, Nadia Petrova will be eying local support next time she plays at Indian Wells. Petrova, who surrendered to yet another Russian, Maria Kirilenko at the 2012 BNP Paribas Open, hopes to be listed as an American in 2013 after applying for US citizenship. Petrova was born in Moscow, owns a home in Miami and intends to put up at Florida permanently. Petrova revealed, "I like the lifestyle. I like the weather. It's just a perfect place for tennis. Everything's so easy. You just come, you need to go to the pharmacy, drug store, it's 24 hours open. Everything is here just for the people, you know." She further added, "I just feel very comfortable here, relaxed atmosphere, and I don't have to stress. I don't have that crazy traffic like it is in Russia. I don't have those cold winters." Petrova is the proud owner of 10 career titles and has reached the French Open semi-finals twice. She also represented Russia in the Fed Cup last month. -- http://www.tennisearth.com/news/tennisNews/Nadia-Petrova-applies-for-US-citizenship-90793.htm

Russian No.1 seed Nadia Petrova retired ill in her quarter-final match against Melinda Czink of Hungary at the Bell Challenge in Quebec City.
The defending champion lost a first set tiebreaker 7-4 before calling the match quits due to illness. The default victory for Czink sets up a semi-final showdown with tournament No.3 seed and local hope Aleksandra Wozniak. The Canadian is in ominous form following a 6-1 6-1 demolition of Russian Alla Kudryavtseva.
