| | In the opening round of the Gastein, Iveta Benesova beat Kirsten Flipkens (BEL) (67(5), 75, 64). Note: The 64th-seeded Czech converted seven of 18 bp:s vs. Kirsten's 7 "booom" aces.
Galina Voskoboeva (WTA ranked 91) hasn't impressed me at all during the last couple of months. Iveta is a better player from most points-of-views and should win this match easily. Worst case: It will be a 3-setter!
In the second round, Benesova will play Galina Voskoboeva of Russia, who lost the first set before defeating Sanda Mamic of Croatia 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. |

| | Benesova has won all 3 previous encounters on different surfaces, and comes into this match in fair form having made R3 at Roland Garros and coming from behind to beat Flikpens in a surprisingly tough match first up. Clay is the pet surface for the left-hander and her 22-8 record this year including wins over Vaidisova, Peng, Vesnina, Pennetta and Pin are a step above Voskoboeva who prefers the hard stuff. The Russian also came from a set down first-up, overcoming the comeback girl Sanda Mamic sweeping the final set without dropping a game. Her record on this terrain at the top level since the beginning of 2007 is mediocre, and has not strung together two wins in main draws on it since an Italian challenger this time last year. She has a decent serve and some heavier groundstrokes, but the movement to me is a little suspect and the speedy and versatile Benesova will have the upper hand here. The Czech has good defensive abilities but I prefer her when she is on the attack particularly on the second serve where is usually not so forgiving. Benesova also has the fitness on her side having won 11 of her past 14 matches that have extended to 3 sets, the only 3 losses coming to the calibre of players Radwanska, Srebotnik and A Bondarenko. Iveta all the way here. |

| | Benesova comes in here with a 3-0 record over Voskoboeva and has compiled a 22-9 record on dirt over the last year. She has scored useful wins Muesberger, Pennetta, Pin, Ani, Peer, Vesnina, Vaidisova, and Peng. Voskoboeva came back to defeat Mamic in three sets abd has suffered loses to claycourters like Castano, Zakapalova, Cetkova, and Suarez-Navarro this year. Benesova showed great fight in her last match coming from 0-3 down in the 2nd and 0-2 down in the 3rd to snatch victory and with a 3-0 head to head record should win here comfortably. |

| | I think Voskoboeva should win this match she's a better hardcourt player and her hardcourt record is superior to Mamic's. Voskoboeva's game is suited to Hardcourt and I would back her to win the match although it may be a 3 setter. |

| | Mamic one the only previous encounterwhen Voskoboeva was top ranked at an Italian ITF event back in 2004, and the Croatian has made a successful return to the tour after a debilitating wrist injury. She thought her career was over and pursued a career in Web Design, but this year has come back and has defeated Chan and Krajicek already. She is a lefty with a great love for the dirt surface where she grew up - her record on the surface is an impressive 55-28 and though she has lost her past 4 she has earned victories over Hantuchova, Garbin, Leon-Garcia and Vakulenko to boost her pedigree. Voskoboeva is a lanky 6 foot Russian who is more adept on the hard surfaces that are conjucive to her heavier and less patient style of play and the Russian has had major problems quelling the consistent and defensive dirtballer types as is proven by losses this year to Cetkovska, Suarez-Navarro, Zakopalova, Castano, Schruff and Gagliardi. Galina has not strung two main draw matches in a row since beating Parmentier and a winless Krajicek at Indian Wells back in early March, and will most likely find herself out of her depth against a typical claycourter who will sense a massive opportunity to get back on the winner's list. |
