Vives' match with Peer was locked at 5-5 yesterday when play was interrupted the day prior, then the Spaniard won 8 of the remaining 10 games upon resumption to take out the seeded Shahar Peer who is taking the same gloomy track as Sybille Bammer right now. As usual, she has had a consistent claycourt season making the QFs at Vina Del Mar (d. Errani, Pin), winning Bogota (d. Errani, Sanchez, Jozami, Salerni) and taking Anna Chakvetadze to 3 sets at the French. Her compatriot, a 19yo wild card Compostizo de Anders, made a mockery of her recent form and credentials to upstage the seasoned veteran Emilie Loit in 3 sets - a player who got some confidence with some nice showings in Roland Garros. She came from a set down, and won a tense 3rd set tiebreak which is a testament to her resolve, and should see her current ranking of 341 rise in months to come. Vives is a tough nut to crack though, from the back of the court, chases every ball down and makes few unforced errors. Her experience as well as a realisation she is now a legitimate shot at making the final of this event should see her through.
