Wimbledon junior champion Ashleigh Barty stunned top seed Casey Dellacqua in a boilover at the Australian Open wildcard play-off at Melbourne Park on Tuesday.
The 15-year-old Queenslander defeated Dellacqua, who has won six straight Pro Tour events in the past two months, in straight sets - 6-3 6-3.
Later South Australian Luke Saville, the reigning Wimbledon boy's champion, came through a tough encounter against Chris O'Connell from NSW to win 2-6 6-4 6-4.
Barty, who was unseeded, said she had little to lose against Dellacqua but was generous in victory following her win.
``I think I played very well today,'' Barty said. ``I know Casey didn't play her best but I'm just pleased to get the win.''
Dellacqua struggled with unforced errors from the start and seemed unsettled against Barty, whose steady returns and consistency blocked any attempt at rhythm.
``Once I got that first set I was over the moon, so I just wanted to keep that roll going and see how I went,'' Barty said.
``I just came into the match going out there to enjoy it. I'm not too worried about the score at the moment so I just came out here wanting to enjoy it and have fun.''
Dellacqua still remains alive in the tournament but must win her next two matches.

Perhaps worth keeping in mind for the AO and lead-up tournaments:

After finally overcoming a wretched run with injury, fit-again Casey Dellacqua is zeroing in on January's Australian Open.
And after winning five straight lead-up tournaments, the
26-year-old left-hander has no doubt she can push past her previous highest world ranking of No.39.
In 2008, Dellacqua was the toast of her grand slam tournament when she surged to the fourth round.
But even then she was being hampered by a shoulder injury which eventually required surgery early in 2009.
The following year was cruelled by foot surgery.
Dellacqua, though, sees positives in the missing years, believing they helped her become more rounded and mature - qualities which will be reflected on court.
She will play the Australian Open wildcard tournament next month at Melbourne Park but win or lose, the West Australian is effectively guaranteed a spot in the main draw.
And she feels that is where she deserves to be.
``I feel like I'm hitting the ball great right now and that just comes from playing a lot of matches,'' Dellacqua said on Thursday.
``I always think I have a chance to win tournaments but to win five in a row is something I probably didn't think I could do. I'm on a 26-match winning streak now.
``I think it is time now where I've got to aim to try to play some of the better players.
``I'll have that during the Australian Open so it will be interesting to see where I'm at.
``I think it's realistic to say I can come back to where I was.
``I think I've come a long way from even when I was top 40 in the world but my first goal is to get inside the top 100 next year.''
Dellacqua said that she was feeling ``mentally really fresh'' as well as being able to finally train properly.

More bad news for Casey Dellacqua - she'll be out of the game for up to nine months after undergoing surgery on her foot.

It may pay to take care with betting on Dellacqua, early on at least.

She says she's just at around 60 per cent fitness ahead of Brisbane, and realistically won't be back to her best until halfway through 2010.

She says: "I can't really expect to be playing my best tennis now when I haven't had the court time that I would have liked."
