| | Two defensive warriors going head-to-head and although Bammer got the verdict last year, she has nowhere near lived up to those same stanards whilst on the flipside Medina Garrigues has enjoyed a year of great consistency. The Spaniard has won 18 of her past 24 matches against top opposition, and on this surface not only does she post some good results she also holds decent decisions against players that lack attacking firepower as wins ovef Rodina, Strycova, Kudryavtseva, Cetkovska, Pratt and Tosic would indicate. Bammer, a decent server with good movement around the court, has been out of sorts in 08 and her unforced error counts have been unusually high showing an extreme lack of confidence in her own ability. The left-handed mum got some handy wins under her belt prior to this event, but will be forced to work too hard by the warrior Garrigues who is the ultimate ball retriever on the WTA circuit. This quarter really has opened up after the withdrawals of Ivanovic and even Golovin, so expect the fiery veteran to seize upon her opportunity. |
