| | Know very little about Ana Vrljic and I guess that was my downfall yesterday in backing De Los Rios who seemed to have a form, class and experience edge on her opponent but it came to nothing. The Croatian lost only 4 games, but this is a heavy ask against one of the tour's more consistent players and one of its beloved dirt dogs. Sixth seeded Garrigues has been in steady form, and kicked off her tournament with a hard-earned win over Zakopalova in the opening round. She adores this event having won back in 05 before doing the double in 07 where she defeated the likes of Molik, Li, Jankovic and Mauresmo, and will be extra motivated by the bundle of points she needs to defend. She retrieves just about anything, is more than compotent in stepping up to the baseline and forcing the play, and has the motor and stamina to outlast any opponent who is only used to slugging it out on the lowly ITF tour. | | I Think that Vrljis Is in some good form of flate, playing well in the ITF circuit and making two finals recently, i think that at $3.25 that it would be a very good value bet to make against Rios is not in the best form of late and looks to struggle aganist Vrljic. |

| | De Los Rios is a veteran mum but she's been in improving form of late after going back to an ITF tournament for confidence. In that event, she beat 3 higher ranked opponents to reach the final before losing to the promising Kops-Jones, and also tested Aravane Rezai in Fes and beat Poutchek in Rome qualifying (before losing 7-5 6-1 to Craybas). In qualifying for this event, she ousted two unknowns before getting the better of top 100 player Shvedova in two tight sets which will give her the world of confidence taking on a player ranked 241. The Paraguian was a junior Roland Garros winner back in 1992 and lives for the clay, whilst Vrljic is more at home on the harder surfaces (59% on clay past two seasons). The Croatian journeywoman was in mediocre form during April before qualifying over two unflattering opponents plus Meng Yuan (who hates clay), and Rossana gets an easy first-up assignment which she will prove too experienced and solid. |
