| | Brianti is a dirtball battler whose decision to revert back to clay after a recent venture to the hard courts is a little confusing. The big serve and heavy hitting of Brit Mel South is suited to this terrain, and she comes into qualifying with superior form to a lot of girls in this field with a 3-set match with Bartoli, a competitive loss to the young rising star Rybarikova and a win over capable veteran Castano in Bronx. She should dictate the baseline rallies against the defensive Italian and only high counts of unforced errors and a woeful first ball percentage you'd think could stop her here. |

| | Alberta Brianti is fighting hard for comeback through the top100 ranking. Her favourite surface is clay and today she will face compatriot Vinci, never in a top phyisical form this year. Brianti has passed with confidence the qualification round and I see her finally return with a WTA match win. |
