| | garcia Lopez has always been a money mkaer for me..i made lotsa money betting on him..and there is no reason y i wudnt bet on him again today..van de merwe is mainly a challenger level player..sure he did win his 3 qualifying matches and mite be litle confident playing in his first wimbledon main draw..but garcia is much more experienced and will have no problems dispatching the former college star .GL |

| | Van der Merwe has been pretty toothless on the challenger circuit this year either failing to qualify or going out early in the tournament. It is hard to knock what has been a fairly impressive qualifying and his game obviously translates well to grass. Garcia-Lopez has a modest grass record but did get to the semis at Nottingham last year beating capable grass types Bogdanovic and Grosjean suggesting all is not lost for the spaniard on this surface. Van der Merwe is 0-8 against top 100 players which is just about where Garcia-Lopez sits at the moment. |

| | Van Der Merwe, the 24 year old who qualified with decent wins over capable grasscourters in Pless and Niemeyer to make the main draw, is an ODU graduate who had never played on grass before now. Surprising really given he is a 6'2" serve-volleyer, and post his matches here this week he stated in an interview; ""It's really soft under your feet and the ball naturally bounces lower than it does on a hard court...But I'm a serve-and-volley player, so it fits my game. I'm just determined to get to the net as much as I can." He will nearly double his earnings with a first-round appearance here, but shouldn't be content with that as this is an extremely winnable match. Garcia-Lopez is a very inconsistent baseliner who is just 7-8 on this terrain, though he did take a young Djokovic to 5 sets here in 2005 and gave Ferrer a good run for his money in the first two sets the following year. He is quick around the court and can pack a punch from either wing, but is prone to high rates of unforced errors on an "off" day. He is 0-2 in matches that have gone to a 5th set, and has suffered 3 bagels in his past 5 matches showing what type of inconsistency the Spaniard is prone to. The South African has the serve and net game to put loads of pressure on the sometimes inaccurate groundies of Garcia-Lopez which could be rushed so much so that he loses his cool, however nerves will be the big factor for Izak as he plays on undoubtedly the biggest stage of his career. |

| | A pick of the day in my book. Young South African Van der Merwe, a former College star in the United States is playing his first Wimbledon after getting through the qualification with some impressive wins. He is an unknown for Garcia-Lopez and that will be his biggest advantage. He can play very nice serve and volley game, he is solid from the baseline and likes fast courts. It is worth to try and put some money on clear 3:0 or 3:1 win. |
