| | @redbaron, don't worry what most people say coz i enjoy your exploits.
I would like to be in your shoes one day and will be doing the same as you too. I like the gun swinger in you and the confidence you got in smaking those darn bookies.
As I also say "if you point your finger at me i'll lop it off and if you wave money in my face, I'll gladly take it and your watch, wallet, house, car hahaha. |

| | This match is finely poised in the middle of the first, and whilst Gaba is the better player so far his missed opportunities worry me - potential to blow up at any time :| |

| | I don't normally like taking any match involving Gabba due to his inconsistency.... But today the price was too big for me to resist.... |

| | Odds look o.k. for Gaba. He lacks a success on ATP level and should see this as a big chance to go deep into the tournament. Against an opponent like Arguello he has good chance by keeping his error rate low. |

| | Gabashvili has a much better record than Arguello on clay in the past year and although Argi has been playing well of recent times i see Gabash trumping him in this match. |

| | I'm a big fan of Tsunami to be honoust. He is quite the headcase, hardly has a good tactic and has that fixing buzz around him but he is just so great to watch on court. With his twitchy acting during matches and his extremely offensive mentality his matches are always a joy to behold. He is by far on his best on hardcourts but recently he has really been going for the red stuff as well and it has been showing with an impressive 20-8 this year and 3 Challenger wins. He had a good run earlier on this year in Holland when he reached the quarter final in Rotterdam and the fans are starting to like the Russian. He started with a good win over Thierry Ascione with a great first set and a less convincing second, in which he still looked stable, overcoming a break and easily grabbing the tiebreak. With Martin Vassallo-Arguello he has that typical grinding opponent of a calibre he has beaten so many already this year (Hartfield, Andujar, Coria and Navarro-Pastor, who I don't really rate as a grinder though). Vassallo looked terrible in round 1, giving away tons of breakpoints, only winning due to the lack of class of Brizzi. He has had some good runs with 2 challenger finals this year and Montanes, Feliciano Lopez and Belucci as his biggest scalps but I still like Gaba a lot more for this one. He is a superior player, has the better serve and the match is clearly on his racket: If he doesn't blow up during the match, as he did in the past at some point, he should beat Vassallo here. |

| | Gabashvili has been in fine form winning 2 claycourt challenger titles (beat Sirianni, Phau, Jun, Andujar, Hartfield) and despite a hiccup at Stuttgart got back on the winner's list against Ascione where his serve stats were impressive. The flashy Russian takes on the steadier baseline play of the controversial Vassallo-Arguello, but the Argentine has been untypically out of sorts of late even on this his pet surface making the Prostejov challenger final but losing early on in 3 other surrounding events. This year, on clay, the Argentine has struggled against the more aggressive baseliners (like Gaba) who seem to peg him back way behind the baseline, and losses to Bellucci, Calleri, Vliegen, Minar and Gimeno-Traver are very solid evidence of this. Vassallo does have his troubles on serve (see the stat from Koliopp regarding his first match against 293rd ranked Brizzi) and one would imagine that if the Russian is firing accurately (not always the case) he's going to be winning a majority of the first-strike plays. Gabashvili, if he can quell his temper and stay focused against an opponent who's main aim is clearly to frustrate the other, should take this out with relative comfort and in this vein of form I'm prepared to stick with him. |
