| | Sam Querrey's had an underestimated year so far - winning his debut title in Las Vegas and going on a giant-killing run in Monte Carlo where he beat Moya, Seppi (doesn't that form look good now?) and Gasquet before failing against Djokovic after a competitive opening set. He has a big serve, capable volleys and a very good forehand shot that can do lots of damage, but his downfall is somewhat limited movement and in particular the backhand side. He is probably a less-athletic version of Andy Roddick, but he has proven that he is no mug on clay especially if it is not mud slow. Marach is a tall competitor himself, but lacks the power and precision of Querrey, and will need the home crowd to do their part here. He strugglesd at the top level, but two recent challenger events have yielded only three wins and losses to Hernych and Berlocq both in 3 sets. The local boy boasts an uninspiring 8-11 record in his home country since 2003, has lost 4 of his past 5 to big servers in the top 200, and has not beaten a player in the top 50 in his last four attempts. Querrey in a canter. |

| | Querrey had a terrific run in Monte Carlo beating Moya, seppi and Gasquet before getting a mauling from Djokovic. Local Marach is more at home at challenger level and the recent form of Querrey looks far superior. |

| | bullet- doesn't look like the Portuguese locals are getting much support from this website. I think they're doing pretty well... |

| | Hardly the most inspiring of contests, youngster Sousa has spent most of his time on the furures circuit where his best effort was in reaching a semi-final. He has to be given credit for coming through qualies with the loss of just one set but this represents a stiffer task. Marach has had his best sequence of wins in qualies this week since he won a challenger title in july of last year but he has beaten established players like Koubek, Berlocq, Patience and Ventura on the dirt in the last year. The Austrian is sure to be happy with this draw and his greater experience should win the day. |
