| | Decoud was a surprise winner yesterday over the in-form Christophe Rochus, but the going gets a little tougher here against a highly-talented local youngster. Sidorenko, who is a junior Grand Slam winner, oozes talent but is yet to put everything together on the court. He has struggled at challenger level but has defeated the capable claycourt likes of Prodon, Martin, Mertl, Sabau and Navarro-PAstor. He defeated another promising claycourter in Koellerer in the first round who had momentum and experience on his side, and he will be confident of having enough weaponry in his armoury to out-hit the Argentine from the baseline. He also possesses the bigger serve and will be keener than ever to qualify here after failing in 05 and 06 (and was forced to retire in the 4th set against Eschauer in main draw last year). |

| | Markets will be interesting for this match - with the 36 year old veteran Younes El Aynaoui taking on a boy half his age in 2006 Australian Open junior boys champion Alexandre Sidorenko. The French boy, a young tall flashy blonde, is a very talented prospect who has taken a little while to develop after claiming his victory. He has performend consistently on the challenger and future circuits, and did beat Mertl, Alberto Martin, and Brands in his last German claycourt event. He qualified here with easy wins over 2 locals and a seeded Tkalec, losing only 17 games in the process. Unlike his opponent, he relishes the clay, although the Moroccan comes into this match full of confidence for two reasons. Firstly, he won his first challenger in 12 months winning in Chiasso (d. Meffert, Devilder, Martin) and qualified without dropping a set. Secondly, he was a semi-finallist here in 01 and won the title in 02 - admittedly when at the peak of his game. Big El Aynaoui has a booming serve which he enjoys coming in behind, and has always had amazing touch at net. He is a lot slower than he once was, and has trouble stringing together rhythm from the back of the court, and Sidorenko is a capable-enough baseliner to hit his targets and relish a target at net if he gets one. The French kid has won his last 3 against big servers and El Aynaoui is going to need to a big engine if he is going to compete. Sidorenko close to a good thing for mine. |
