Marc Gicquel's unofficial blog site, which is run by an admin that is close to the Frenchman, suggests he will be back for the Casablanca claycourt tournament just after Easter.
"The Briochin decided to resume competition on clay in Casablanca, April 5 next. For now, the prolonged absence of the circuit has no adverse consequences in the ATP rankings. Fifty-second after the Australian Open is this week 61st World. But not particularly shined last year during the U.S. tour, his absence should not harm him too."

This happened the day before he planned to leave for San Jose.

Marc Gicquel retired rather tamely after losing the opening set 7-5 to dimunitive Belgian Christophe Rochus in Moscow yesterday, the Frenchman was suffering from a "sore throat" which apparently was nothing more than your average semi-cold.
Motivation must not have been high for the Frenchman.
