World No. 63 Robin Haase ended a run of four successive first-round defeats on the ATP World Tour as he battled past Nikolay Davydenko 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in two hours and 44 minutes. Reports courtside from Haase's Helsinki match with Capkovic yesterday were extremely positive, apparently the Dutchman is moving fluently and is showing no ill effects from his long layoff with knee troubles.
The Slovakian was apparently poor and littered with errors, but Haase served some bombs and was crisp with his shotmaking particularly off the forehand wing and looks set for another decent run in a challenger. Expect him to re-ignite the ATP tour with some of the lower level ATP 250 events next season I think... | |||||||||||||||||||||

Robin Haase has notched two wins in the Jersey challenger qualifying this week, marking a comeback to the tour after over a year off due to a troublesome knee injury.
The talented young Dutchman completed surgery some six months ago, and is now fully recovered as he embarks a full scale return in 2010, where he will use his protected ranking to enter in the usual events. | |||||||||||||||||||||
