| | Simon has won me a fair amount of money since the hardcourt season has started and I am going to be backing him once again here. Simon has been on fire lately and he surprised me in the way he beat Soderling so easily. Canas on the other hand was poor against an also ran like Niemayer. Canas struggles on serve more often than not which will play into the hands of Simon who is more than capable of holding his own. |

| | These two have experienced quite contrasting seasons with Simon up to a career-high ranking of 13 and in astute form while Canas is on the slide and really struggling at the top level. The Argentine was fortunate enough to benefit from Niemeyer's retirement in R1 after actually trailling by a set, while Simon did it the tough way as he went in underdog but proved the bookies wrong with a straight-set verdict over the dangerous Soderling. In that match, the gritty Frenchman won 66% of points on his service (sometimes his major downfall) and the fact he was able to break the heavy serve of the Swede on four occasions speaks volumes for his confidence. Canas somehow managed to commit 39 unforced errors in 15 games of tennis which is indicative of his waywardness in recent times, perhaps a strong sign that he feels his typical defensive-wall game is being picked up well by his peers. Canas is struggling on serve and suffered a shock loss with Nalbandian in the doubles which will do nothing to enhance his belief, and the rising star Simon should be able to dictate terms with his extra attacking artillery off the backhand and force the Argentine into too many mistakes. |

| | Canas wasn't looking particulary impressive against Niemeyer who was forced to retire during the second set of their first round match yesterday. Simon the opposite against Soderling, surprising me, winning in straight sets. I am however, going to go against the bulk here and side with the Argentine who I beleive represents fantastic odds in a contest where not much will separate them. |
