I`m just telling what i saw...Safin was great until he just gifted last game in 2nd set. I think it`s still 50-50 when Safin can hold his serve.

yes safin is playing like he did against djoko at wimbledon. he must mean business as he has had his play-boy hair cut off for the heat of the tennis court.

for me this is the best bet of the evening, there is no way I would choose safin, the consistancy of robredo all the way for me. Bet of the day - robredo to progress against the angry safin who lost his head big time in the previous round.

Robredo is in average form on hard as usually. He collected wins over weak Niemeyer and Fish who is in poor form. He played in Beijing, but lost to Seppi in first round. Other defeats on hard was too players with big serve: Soderling and Cilic. In first round of US Open Robredo win over another big server- M. Zverev. German player was solid only in first set, then he completely lost his way. But Zverev or Fish are class below Soderling, Cilic or even Safin. Robredo doesn't like play against big servers especially when they are able to limit own unforced errors. In US Open Robredo went to 4th round a few times.
Safin after great play in Wimbledon again is just so-so. On hard he won only against boys from America- Querrey, Odesnik and Isner. They are just average in my opinion and without their big serve they are nothing. Russian got also a neck injury and ret. in Washington, in first round. In first round of US Open won over old guy from USA- V. Spadea, but he needed 5 sets. In 4th set he had just been broken to lose the fourth set, after twice double faulting for foot faults. He was very angry on umpire, but also stayed calm in 5th and win whole match.
Safin is former US Open's Champion(2000), in 2001 he lost in Semi Final. Ofcourse today this is not the same Marat Safin as he was a few years ago, but he still like this surface and like big tournaments.
H2H:
They played 8 times. 4:4, but Robredo leads 2:1 on hard. Last match was played in 2006. Robredo has really bad H2H statistics against Big Servers. For example: 0-3 Karlovic, 1-5 Ljubicic, 1:3 Soderling, 0:8 Roddick, 2:4 Blake).
Conclusion:
Spadea said after match: "Today I was more offensive than I usually am, so I think that's why I displayed some positive play". So maybe solid baseline play little more aggressiveness is key to beat Safin. Robredo could be too much careful and this could be hope for Safin.

A hit and miss Safin against the ever consistent Robredo? This is one way traffic, Robredo wins all his games, Safin wins most of his games, Robredo wins. Safin will get frustrated by Tommy and will rack up the errors and sluggish returns

Safin can be "dangerous" like the Fremantle Dockers, but his poor form of '07 almost haunted him again in Rnd 1, against the lowly rated Spadea in 5 sets. Robredo seems to be back at his great form, winning against Zrevev in straight sets with class. He was great against big serving Zrerev and was hitting the ball well. So Safin's serve should not trouble Robredo that much. Assuming Robredo get his way in the first set, this will create a downward spiral for Safin, which will only exaberate as the match progresses. I am sure Robredo can maintain his game, and this will further cause many Unforce Error against the very irritable Safin (thus the mental downward spiral). I dont think Safin has the mental patience or capacity or temprement to tackle an in-form Robredo, assuming the latter can play at his own game as witnessed in first round. For me, Robredo is a good bet. Maybe best bet of the day given the value. As always, good luck :)....

Think that H2H bet have no value.
Games over 40 should be OK.
Even in 4 sets they can be over.

I`d say in nine of ten occasions Robredo would beat Safin here - the question is if today is exactly the day that Safin can pull another rabbit out of his hat. This seems pretty unlikely after his weak performance against Spadea. But we are still talking about Safin and this maniac can still bring almost every player into trouble - if he keeps himself under conrol. I chose Robredo here because the odds are
