I am sure glad I tipped Melzer - can't believe the score. All of the first 8 games have gone to the Austrian. I just hope that Vanek does not retire :-)

I also validate for this match a hc or straight win - but as we all know Jürgen is able to lose some grip which should not really endanger the 3rd round - so i go only for a win here.

Vanek isn't quite the mug he is being made to look like or sound like on here, but I do think the younger, quicker and better opponent will win this match comfortably. Vanek serves well and is a decent player, usually at lower level though. Melzer's confidence will be high after the last few months and you would expect him to be able to get on top here. Straight sets win should be the call for the Austrian.

Melzer showed he was over a stomach problem that forced him to withdraw from the New Haven doubles last week, outlasting the seeded Feliciano Lopez in a 5-set and 3 hour battle. The Austrian produced 9 aces, won 69% behind the first ball and has some good success targetting Lopez's weaker backhand slice and approaching the net. He is a model of consistency who has really improved his game in the past few seasons, and a lot of the better players even find him a tricky proposition with his occasional serve/volley tactics and the fact he makes few unforced errors. The veteran Jiri Vanek won a 4-set match with challenger level player Stephane Bohli where he executed 18 aces and won 80% of points behind his first serve - probably more a black mark against the Swiss' name than anything of Vanek's doing. He is your base player who moves well to cover the court, hits consistently off the ground and is a hard player to knock over for the lesser types. Yesterday was his first win at the US Open main draw in 5 previous matches, and the Czech has never progressed past a second round at Grand Slam in 31 career attempts. Melzer will have things all his own way and shouldn't need to lift out of second gear, this should be no different to the straight-sets rout at this year's Aus Open where Melzer lost just 7 points on the first serve and won 66% of points on Vanek's second ball. 3-0 a very nice bet.

Can't really say anything more than a 3 set win to the Meltz-Man. I knida believe players like Vanek don't win many games in GS Tournaments

Melzer has arlready disposed of Vanek in the Australian and a similar result would not be surprising. Its a typical serve vs return affair, but Vaneks serve is simply not top notch enough to be fully relied upon in comparison to players like karlovic and roddick and will present some opportunities for Melzer on the return

Vanek is completely lost once his serve is returned. Melzer playing well and I don't see how Vanek could win 3 out of 5.

Tip: The difference in Match Rating between two players represents the average number of service games that separate them in a set of tennis as predicted by the Insight Model.
