Without any doubt: Simon to reach the 3rd round. He simply is the better tennisplayer - especially on hardcourt. Probably Acasuso already went shopping in Manhatten in his mind...

Simon will win this match but we tipsters will probably not. I know Acasuso to be a quitter & I feel that 2day as soon as he starts losing, he'll throw in the towel...

i'm a big simon fan and i would love to see him reach only his second, grand slam third round but unfortunately he is gonna struggle against a player like acacuso in best of five sets. simon has proven he has what it takes to beat acacuso but the longer the match, the harder simon struggles, his stamina is questionable. he might win, i hope he does but it is a big risk for a player who always tires at some point during a tournament.

Simon was playing out of his skin when they last met but having watched him recently I not totally convinced he playing anywhere near his best, which must give Acasuso a chance if he can keep his error count down. The game will be won on Jose's racket and worth a small bet.

I can't see Acasuso winning a single set. I'll go big for the in-form frenchman! Simon in straight sets!

Simon boasts a 2-0 h2h record over Acasuso including the most recent Toronto match in a tournament where the Argentine was enjoying the ride of his life albeit a lucky one. In that match, the consistent Frenchman won more points off his first and second serves, saved all 7 break points and let Acasuso hang himself in typically gritty Simon-style. The 16th seed is enjoying the best form of his career and a best ranking of 13 just prior to the new release, and he kicked off his US Open campaign in style with a win over the flashy Granollers. Simon, as he can do at times, struggled a little with his first serve percentage but when it landed he won 73% of points and also won a brilliant 76% behind the second ball whilst punishing that of the Spaniard's. Acasuso beat an unfit and down-on-confidence Michael Berrer who's 44% of first balls in, 10 double faults and 13 break points conceeded are some of the worst numbers he's produced in a long, long time. Acasuso never needed to get out of first gear, however he'll need to come up to about third here if he is to challenge the all-rounded stability of Simon. Acasuso possesses a big forehand to go with his hefty serve, but his second ball, lateral movement, backhand wing, footwork and decision making are all frustrating aspects of his game. Simon, aside from the serve, is so accurate from the back of the court and keeps good depth on his groundies which are sure to have Acasuso playing some low percentage tennis in the effort of outhitting Gilles. Simon can also change direction very nicely off the backhand wing, runs everything down and can last the journey (3-2 lifetime record in 5-setters; 5-3 in 4-setters). He is a bit of a threat to the likes of Ferrer, del Potro, Wawrinka and Murray and he'll thoroughly expect to progress to those latter stages of the quarter.

This will be clean smash and grab stuff. I will take any odds especially against an Argentinian who will be forced into more mistakes than a married man living next door to Chloe Dove

I fully expect the hard fighting simon to prevail over the nonchalent displays of acasuso. Toronto showed that Acasuso never really looked bothered and Simon just plugged away to win with an the extra break in each set. I see the same sort of display here. Acasuso's serve can bail him out on occassions and he can show up at odds times to hit some decent returns, but he will not match the prologned effort of simon to win 3 sets off him
