Both had problems in the first round but managed to win their last two sets quite easy. Fish has beaten some good players this year, some better players like PHM. The 41+ bet looks maybe really better here. |

Go on with it and the rate for Fish will grow up for me :) Anyway Fish plays at home ground. When he is a favourite he plays not well. But when he isn't he makes a lot of suprises. This time his task looks pretty hard. But like Gasquet made an upset before I predict that Mathieu will do the same today. In my opinion final result will be 3:2 for Fish |

I don't know why but all of the sudden I had to think about that funny comparison when I had a look at this match here. For me Fish and Mathieu are players to stay away from - you never now in which condition they appear and how motivated they are. One day they can be a threat to the world's top players (especially on hardcourt) and the other day they lose to the world's number 500. To make it short: This one can go either way and I'll leave my hard earned in my wallet. |

He fired 15 aces and won 78% of points behind his first serve, but squandered three-quarters of his 12 break chances, made 58 unforced errors and served 7 double faults. That is the inconsistent feast that one is so often used to being dished up by the American, and he will have to improve if he is to beat Mathieu for the first time and break his US Open 2nd round hoodoo that has seen him fall at this hurdle the last 6 years. The Frenchman found himself facing set point for a 2-set deficit against out-of-form countryman Sebastien Grosjean, but knuckled down and proved far too fit and strong for his ailing compatriot as he wrapped up proceedings in just undr 3 hours. Paul-Henri became frustrated at times because Grosjean's serving was out of this world for most of the first two and a half sets, facing a barrage of 22 aces and only winning 13 of the 69 points against Grosjean's first ball. The Mathieu of old would have become easily flustered and trying to hit the cover off the ball even harder, but he has reformed his game and now has a lot more patience to his game and is able to construct a point. He'll want to adopt that strategy here against an attacking flat-hitting opponent like Fish who can easily lose the plot and get down on himself, and overall he matches up well against Mardy. Fish confessed to an interviewe after his win over Smeets that he is a little tired due to a "jam-packed summer" but that he will "leave everything out on the court because he is only playing 3 tournament over the fall due to his upcoming wedding". That being said, I'm not convinced - Mathieu is a better athlete who has more endurance over 5 sets, he can match Fish's forehand, is considerably stronger off the backhand and hits with more margin for error. He loves this surface, has no points to defend or mental disadvantages like his opponent and this will be the perfect opportunity for the Frenchman to set up a potential meeting with James Blake and elevate himself back inside the world's top 20 players. |
