The last hard court tourney at Miami, he certainly gave Roddick quite a run. Minar also beat Schwank this week, so I he certainly has a chance. |

If it depends on better coaching, a nice girl friend, yoga... I don't know. But I am getting more and more scared that his nrj is soon gone (temporary!) for this brilliant period on the court. Sooner or later he will run his head against the brick stone wall. I don't think the little choker inside him is quite dead yet - I hope I'm wrong! :-)
I don't know where I can place Ivo Minar either. No, I don't want to do any prediction of this match. I'll wait to the 2nd set before I make a decision.

I´ve read he played o.k against Sela but Minar has achieved two nice wins against Schwank and Mahut so i give him more options than bookies. Verdasco uses to choke when fav. so this time i´ll go with Minar at surprising odds @3,55 |

The Spaniard was consistent against Sela and will be looking at a good run here to boost confidence heading into the big one next week. Minar did me a favour in turning over Schwank but Verdasco is a diferent quality. |

The Spaniard, despite that and 6 double faults, served 77% of first balls in and won 67% of those points as he broke the Israelian on 4 occasions to get the verdict. Ivo Minar and Schwank held sway on serve up until 5-5 in the first set when the Czech broke, won 4 consecutive games to gain the break lead early in the second and despite letting it slip was able to regain the immediate break-back which is always a good indication a player is switched on. He lost just 14 points in 10 service games which probably says more for the returning and groundstroke game of the Argentinian than it does for Minar's serve, but he is confident and did belt the top seed back in 2005 on this surface though Minar has always started seasons well and faded off. He adopts much the same style of play as Verdasco with an attacking outlook from the baseline, but Verdasco has a little more sting and an ability to hit the big winners and when his serve is on-song it is more than capable of earning loads of cheap points especially against "tee-off" returners such as the Czech. He has a fair record at this event and will sense the importance of this event not only in the build-up to next week's US Open but also with the potential of creeping ever so close to the top 10. |
