Anyway, looks like the Olga will be slain today.
This augers well for me as i have made a stunning comeback from some disastrous bets and soul destroying ones at that....I will never forgive Camille Pin for her self destruction when leading 5/2....what a miss |

Granted she did beat Hanuchova, but Daniela is having a woeful run and as Destroyer said, needs time off to find herself again. Been very impressed with Mattek of late and her confidence and form is sky high at present. Home crowd will get behind Mattek and Govortsova will have to produce a very solid performance to take this on. I will side with Mattek on the basis of consistencey, form and home turf. |

Olga served well and kept good depth on her strokes while really attacking and putting the Slovak on the back foot where she is at her most vulnerable. The Belarussian, though, highlighted her major problem which is closing proceedings out - and was lucky that a sloppy error from Hantuchova at 4-5 40-30 on serve handed her a lucky break after she had jumped out to a seemingly unasseilable 5-1 lead. Bethanie Mattek continued her rise to the top with another crushing victory over the big-serving Vaidisova, the second time in as many months as she's tought the one-dimensional Czech a big lesson. The American has a lot to like about her game - an effective serve, brilliant volleying, great angles and variety on the groundstrokes that open up the court, and very sound in defense where she is quick to get to the ball and reads the play well. She reminds me in a way of an up-and-coming version of Martina Hingis, and her results on the ITF circuit have been nothing short of brilliant so it's great to see her finally making inroads at WTA level for something other than her extraordinary outfits that we saw last year. Govortsova is the erratic type whereas Mattek is much more solid, and despite having a bit more power behind her delivery, the lanky Olga is definitely less consistent and could be vulnerable against the deep returns from Mattek. Mattek should really sense an opportunity in front of her home crowd - Serena withdrew, doubles partner Mirza was eliminated, and veteran fancies Hantuchova and Schnyder are also out - here is her chance to avenge for that narrow loss in August last year where the circumstances were so different. |
