If you don't want to be "stung", don't bet - simple as that. Pennetta won, but Sugiyama was extremely disappointing she won the same number of points behind the first serve and had 10 break chances (to just 7) though converted only 2 (compared to 4 from Flavia). The Italian also showed her typical nerves when trying to shut out matches as she went down 0-40 at 4-3 in the second set, but unfortunately Ai couldn't capitalise which is very unlike her. Sugiyama would win this encouter probably 7 or 8 times out of 10 particularly on this surface, but unfortunately not this time - that's gambling. Continue to act like you have been and I don't think admin will be keeping your profile active for much longer (or the 4 other clones that you've made). |

Just a few days ago there were multiple haters of the Sugiyama game - now everyone is on the bandwagon. There is not a problem with changing one's mind in light of new information, but to act as if you were never on her side is denial or "sweeping facts under the rug", so to speak.
Anyhow, considering value is about even here, why not just go for the over 21.5 games at 1.8? Given that returns are similar, it provides better expectation strictly from a wagering perspective. If you have intuition that speaks otherwise, good for you, but I don't see it. |

I am going to swim against the tide and go with the younger, higher ranked player in Pennetta.
Flavia @ 11/10 |

Pennetta looks a strong player and can compete with the best...on clay. Sugiyama is enjoying some good form at present and looks hard to beat on the hard court. I will side with Sugiyama and hope she can start winning a little money for me..... |

Sugiyama will go far in this tournament. During the last tournaments, Ai has played better and better and I am convinced that this trend will not be broken here,

She looked again very impressive as she ousted the veteran Patty Schnyder in straight sets finding a way to deal with the powerful serve and tricky guile shots of the left-handed fellow veteran. She has won 5 of 6 matches since the hardcourt season began and looks as though she has really rejuvinated her career. Pennetta got through a scrappy encounter with out-of-form teenager Tamira Paszek - the Italian served up a double figure count of double faults and got away with a very low service percentage against an erratic opponent who continually sprayed on the return and in the elongated baseline rallies. The Japanese player has won both previous matches against the claycourt speciallist, and her win as a rank underdog at Wimbledon just a month ago will be big in the mind of Pennetta. Flavia has a very weak serve and despite some good depth and accuracy on her groundstrokes, has little that can hurt Sugiyama who is so good off either wing is super quick around the court and rarely makes errors. Sugiyama's failures in recent years on this terrain have come against the more powerful hitters that can pin her behind the baseline in a passive position (namely Bartoli, Jankovic, Zvonareva, Vaidisova, Gadjosova, Azarenka, Safina, Molik, Chakky, Dementieva) but Pennetta struggles when she steps up her aggression. Flavia's issues in generating her own pace are evident not only that she has a superior record on clay than any other surface, but that the defensive and versatile players that give her limited power to work with (Mattek, Hingis, Nakamura, Razzano, Schnyder, Daniilidou, Schiavone) have all bettered her on hardcourts in the past 8-10 months. Ai is full of confidence and has more experience than any other player in the draw and should at least use that to a winning advantage here. |
