I'm starting to believe dinara has some kind of injury. Well, maybe not, just pure lack of emocional control. She breaks Alla, and then gets broken. I mean, she's number 7 for crying out loud.

rael: I'm not watching the actual match but boy this is poor. She recovered from a break down 3 times in the first set, convincingly won the tiebreak but then the second set was disastrous. 2 out of 3 service games she held game points, and as of 2-2 in the third set she has converted just 4 of 21 break chances whereas Alla is 7 of 10. Amazing for a player who gained so much self-confidence and belief in the past couple of months. All I can think is she is back to her error-riddled and mentally fragile ways in this match, but after all it is an all-Russian encounter. She's just dropped a break lead in the third to be trailling 2-3 and 0-30...Hmm....Come on Dinara.

Safina will be thanking her lucky stars with this match up as I'm guessnig she wouldn't have wanted to play Cibulkova who has claimed many big-hitting scalps already this year. Kudryavtseva lost her serve on 5 occasions in that match-up and will need to improve her serve dramatically if she is to match strides with her much more imposing compatriot who is very dangerous in this area. Safina not only has the big serve, but has the top athleticism and the pounding groundstrokes to keep her opponents pegged behind the baseline. The confidence and self-belief gained from her RG heroics have given her the last piece of the puzzle for what she needs to become a consistently top player, and Dinara has displayed great professionalism here this week to adapt after a month off and having not played on hardcourts for several months as she whalloped Peng Shuai. Players to have got the better of the 4th seed on this terrain in the past include those with bigger armoury such as Henin, Hantuchova, Lisicki, Zvonareva, Petrova and Chakvetadze, but unfortunately Alla won't have this and will simply need to rely on depth, consistency and inevitably unforced errors from Safina. Safina has won her past 5 against Russians (all of whom are higher ranked) and has the sufficient big-game experience to dish out a belting to her over-glorified countrywoman.

This is a bloated line. The difference between these two is not as wide as these odds suggest, and the clear value lies with Alla. Sure Safina, will win this match more times than she loses it, but certainly not at a clip to justify these ridic odds. Alla is more than capable of pulling off the surprise here. Value play on Alla.

Tip: The difference in Match Rating between two players represents the average number of service games that separate them in a set of tennis as predicted by the Insight Model. Lower Rating Handle values indicate that the predicted rating is more speculative and that the player’s ‘true’ form may be significantly different from the models statistical prediction.
