I've got no idea how Acasuso is at this stage. He's surely got to go out this round to a player that has been impressive on hard so far.

Gilles Simon for smart money here. A bet on Acasuso is a fool's bet. You would have to ignore the fact that Acasuso beat two players who basically handed him the matches, and also that these two players, as age007 pointed out, have faced each other on Acasuso's preferred surface with Simon coming out on top when he was just starting to crawl at a ranking of 119. The main thing of course though is that Simon's mentality at the moment is that of a champion, having won 4 tournaments in 07/08 including the prestigious casablanca 2 months ago and last week on a hard surface. You would have to think that especially after the Federer test his form and timing on hard court is as good as it can be at this early stage in his (succesful-top 50 rank) career. Sure Acasuso is timing the ball pretty well on the hardcourt so far, but making a lot of errors as well. Simon had a few errors against Federer, but they were mostly forced from great shots by the world no.1 and vice versa Simon came out with some great winners of his own.

I don't think Acasuso has the tools to win this game. Simon has already beaten some great players in his career, and will not be overawed by the situation of a big scalp less than 24 hrs before this game. Coming off the Indy win and last night's upset, the swiss resident will be extremely proffesional in looking to continue strong and finish the year in the top 20 or 15 and reach a career high ranking, him and his coach relishing that this next round is against a 55th ranked clay courter.

hard to look passed simon here.
he's basically got the pre-match analysis covered. 1-0 h2h, and that was on clay... acasuso's preferred surface. hard court, not acasuso's preferred surface, and a surface that simon has just come off a good tourny on hard court. slip in too simon's latest victim.. none other than federer. wow... how can u go passed him? in my view u cant.

Simon is a good working boy. He aint like most of solid players who can make some sensation and next day bloow it all out. Croatian and balcan players are famous for it. I dont belive Acasuso will be scared from him,but Simon will win. 1,40 is not something to run for it,but its ok. Simon Garfunkel could be tired from playing with Federer, but last week he played all matches untill final in 3 sets, and that didnt stop him to win easyly in final, and still to fight like a dog against Roger after losing 6-2 first set.

Seen Acasuso's last two matches and he hasn't been playing great, he's been gifted the match both times. Simon is in the form of his life and should come away with the win easily.

Geez...I would have told you to back against the Roosters!! I picked Canberra against St G previous week and thought they would fire again.

I should start betting more on this comp tho instead of just picking from the sidelines.

lol, it was going pretty good until Roosters screwed me against the raiders last weekend. I made over 1k and put it all on Roosters because I was so confident they would win after a poor performance the last week. Instead, another poor performance. They're good value to win this week against the favourite of Manly who have injury worries though

I rarely disagree with destroyer, but I will this time. Simon has done great, but he'll be mentally and physically drained from beating the world number 1 and at 1.42, his not good value. If these two were playing in the first round, i would pick Simon every time but because Simon will basically have to sleep, wake up and play he'll be dead tired physically and mentally so therefore the value has to be with Acasuso.

Fedxpress has shown that he is still emotionally distressed from his Wimbledon defeat by losing to Simon. Acasuso has never passed the 2nd round in his last 8 tournaments and this time around he is showing his tenacity on this rather slower surface than the norm after defeating 2 classy players i.e. Gulbis and Gonzalez

I backed Simon against Federer, so I can't go against him now.
As destroyer says, there is always the chance of a mental letdown after a huge victory, but Simon has a great fighting spirit and surely his will maintain his focus on this game.

Acasuso is finding ways to win from the brink and really credit should be given to him. I hate Argentinian Tennis Players as they are downright inconsistent and their form is all over the place.

Also their mental fragility is a concern with countless displays of temper tennis and poor aptitude.

Acasuso is contrary this week having actually made comeback wins.

The two Tattslotto winners clash here - Simon has beenin great form obviously having won the Indianapolis tournament last week which has given him great self-belief, but it must be said Federer did gift him the win in R32 with a pitiful serving display (especially when twice up a break in the decider) and countless unforced errors particularly off the forehand wing. That being said, the Frenchman came up with some very nice passing shots throughout and was extremely solid on the return which he'll look to execute again here opposing Acasuso who has a heavy reliance on his heavy first ball. The Argentine is the luckiest man alive after Gulbis threw away a 5-1 lead in the deciding set of their first round encounter, only then to run into a spiritless and wayward Gonzalez who also led by a break in the third set only to lose the last four games of the match. Jose did what he had to do - landed his first ball consistently and kept the ball deep and just waited for the error from the Chilean not dissimilar to the tactics of Simon against Roger. One previous encounter went to Simon on Acasuso's favoured clay court surface, and he has only improved dramatically since then (up 97 rankings, Acasuso only up 11) not to mention the momentum he has right now. There is always the chance of a mental letdown after a huge victory, but I'm going to stick with the Frenchman who has a great work ethic and should prove too hard a rock for Acasuso to break down unlike the two flash-bangs he has met in the first two rounds.
